JAYE B is bringing the fire with his latest album 4 U, which is out everywhere now. Standout tracks include “Mine,” “Between U and I,” and “Mach 10.” The Indianapolis-native is displaying his melodic R&B sound to his audience — staying true to his vocal ability as well as switching things up since his last-released project, Come Home During Odd Times.

During an interview, JAYE B explained his inspirations for music and how he got started — sharing that he was first uploading his music onto Soundcloud back in 2013. Some of his main influences include Michael Jackson, Jay Z, Kanye, and Lil Wayne. Despite having a prominent R&B sound in his music, the singer’s influences are mostly rappers. Regardless, he wants to become a “beacon” for Indianapolis and pave the way in his own lane of music.

“I grew up on a lot of Neo-soul, R&B, Jazz, and Gospel, and so I feel like it’s responsible for some of the more chill tracks that might have that vibe and even my persona,” JAYE B said.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

For me, my number one influence would have to be Michael Jackson. When I was eight or nine years old, I saw Michael do the moonwalk, thought it was the coolest thing ever, and I had to learn how to do it. After that, it led me into dancing and eventually writing songs. My top 5 influences would have to be MJ, Jay Z, Kanye, and Lil Wayne… My 5th is a tie between Drake, Kendrick, and J. Cole. I feel like you add all of them together, and you get JAYE.

What are some of your music career goals for the future?

I ultimately want to create bodies of work that stand the test of time. I wanted Grammys, and I still do, but with Apple making their new awards, I think it’d be nice to set a record for something new and fresh. Along with awards and records, I want to become somewhat of a beacon for Indianapolis. Something I want to do is give back to my city and family. If I can do that, then this will all be worth it.

Tell us about the project that you are promoting. What is it about? Is it a single or EP? Also, what is the name of the last project you released?

4 U was an EP that originally just had four R&B and pop singles off an upcoming project, and after I got back home, I felt the need to put out a project that sounded like what the city felt like to me during the fall. I also threw in some new and unreleased songs that were relevant to where I was in life at the moment. My last project was an EP called Come Home During Odd Times.

What has the response been like to that project?

I’ve been getting good responses from those that have listened to it, every song is different from the other, so it’s nice to know that every track is somebody’s favorite of the project. Stream the latest project 4 U below.
