Originally from Los Angeles, California, ellie d. is a young artist who is already revolutionizing the local music scene, coming across as one of the most forward-thinking, challenging talents of her generation. Recently, we had the good fortune of sitting down with ellie and asking her a few questions on what it means to be a singer-songwriter in these crazy times.
Growing up in a household surrounded by older siblings, there was never a moment of quiet for the young ellie, and much of that was occupied by music, mostly rock, and singing. So, ellie realized from a young age that there was a strange affinity between herself and the songs, and knew, deep down, that was what she wanted to do with her life.
However, the road was not easy, as it so rarely is for emerging artists.
“The old ellie would have said to hold off on releasing music at first, back when I didn’t have that much experience in the industry,” ellie tells us, looking back on the fear and worry that marked the early years of her career. Talking to her now, we could not help but notice that a vastly different, far more mature, and confident person was sitting across from us, answering these questions, something ellie herself went on to confirm. “I believe that everyone has their own unique path and I think all of my previous releases have truly helped me grow as an artist. I’m extremely excited for this year’s releases and believe my sound and brand is finally where I want it to be.”
It is exactly this uniqueness and this excitement for telling a story that has marked ellie’s short, yet powerful career. Through rapidly growing hits like “Can’t Walk Away” and “Bedtime”, ellie reflects a unique perspective, and coupled with a melodic, highly catchy rhythm, it is extremely hard for these songs not to charm you. And the nearly 1 million streamers on Spotify can attest to that.
But aside from being a talented creative powerhouse, ellie d. is also a highly independent and capable young woman, working hard as a jack of all trades and handling much of the production process, as well as her social media presence.
“As an indie artist, you are the one responsible for pushing your own brand. It’s a great way to connect with new fans and let them into your life a bit,” she tells us when asked about the importance of social media in her brand.
When she is not writing music, playing instruments, or building her brand, ellie d. also enjoys baking and listening to some of her favorites and main influences, like Frank Ocean and Maggie Rogers, to unwind.
“Stick with your goals and don’t give up. It can be emotionally draining at times and there are both ups and downs, but it’s all worth it if you love what you do,” she told our readers, and judging by her success, and also by the way she presents herself, it’s clear to see this remarkably talented young artist takes these words to heart.
