Music, Business and Empowerment: Andrea Galinsky

We do not know about you, but we love someone who is multi-talented and not afraid of branching out into any area or domain that appeals to them. Limiting yourself to only one business sector kills creativity and only stops you from achieving your full potential.

Thankfully, that is clearly not the case for today’s interviewee, Andrea Galinsky. Andrea is a singer-songwriter for Forever Current Music Publishing, but also head of A&R for their Latin Division. She is both an artist and a well-rounded entrepreneur, and recently became the host of her very own podcast, “Entertainment Biz with Andi G”. In her brand-new podcast, Andrea talks with some of the experts in the entertainment business, reaping lessons both for accomplished artists as well as younger artist who are just starting out.

So naturally, we could not help asking her what her opinion on social media is and how important that is for an artist or a business.

“Highly important. Social media allows creatives to show their talents to the world without relying on a “middleman”. It also plays a huge role in building relationships through networking and collaborating with others.”

This is something that many businesses and artists refuse to understand, even to this day. Somehow, many are stuck in the past when you needed that middleman to become someone. But now you do not, and that opens the doors to so much more diverse and undiscovered talent.

Andrea also had some interesting things to say about her youth and her own starting out period.

“I wish I would have educated myself more on business development, branding, and industry strategies early on. I was more focused on building my craft, and not putting enough focus on the business side of the industry. I would have avoided many mistakes along the way which would have saved me a tremendous amount of time. Luckily, I was still able to accomplish many things in my career and gain the knowledge I needed with time through experiences. However, it made me realize the importance of having a mentor to give you the guidance and support necessary to get to where you want faster. That is why I started the “Entertainment Biz Podcast” with the sole purpose of providing as much value and knowledge to aspiring artists and entertainers through resources and interviews with experts,  to help them have a real shot at success in this extremely competitive and saturated industry.”

This is exactly the sort of attitude the world needs right now, and what’s best is that her podcast and the advice you can glean from it is universally applicable to any business sector. Because the entertainment is, at its core, just another business. So a lot of the things you learn about it can come in handy in other businesses as well, which is why we think pretty much anyone who’s looking for some advice or a mentor should give “Entertainment Biz with Andi G” a listen. You never know where that career-saving advice will come from. And speaking of advice, we absolutely loved this one that Andi had specifically for busy women, like herself, who are juggling motherhood as well as a successful career.

“Organize your time so that you know when to work and when to spend quality time with your children and family, Work as a team with your husband or significant other, Know your WHY and take it one day at a time.

Make the time to take care of yourself physically and mentally by exercising and meditating at least 3 times a week.

Join a virtual community of women who share your same passions.

Invest in yourself through masterclasses, and webinars. The support, knowledge, and empowerment that you get is priceless!”

We could not add anything to that if we tried, so we will just say thank you, Andi, for answering our questions!
