Please tell us what’s been happening and buzzing in Maria Soccor’s world as of late and what you want our readers to know about you at this time.

Maria: I’m happy to say what’s buzzing now is that my documentary; Freestyle Music: The Legacy that I am writing, directing, and producing, will be going into post-production this September. Recently, we signed on a new highly skilled producer, MyLinh Bender and I am grateful to be working with such a seasoned professional who identifies as AAPI. I am also continuing to work with the mega talent Robert Clivillés on his two upcoming projects, and an American photographer Neal Slavin on a documentary project.

How would you utilize the digital media world within your industry?

Maria: Digital media is an asset to my industry, especially when it comes to promoting the projects I am involved in. Lately, digital media has been giving me an opportunity to share some information about myself and for that I am grateful.

Has digital/social media been easy for you to navigate? What pointers would you give to actors, directors, writers, and producers to best use social media?

Maria: Digital and social media for me has been easy to navigate, but difficult to stay committed to.

My advice when it comes to social media is to stay committed to your social platforms. If you cannot, there is no shame in having someone manage it for you.

What would you say gives you the most joy?

Maria: Acts of kindness combined with love gives me the most joy. Whether I am the giver, or recipient, or if I simply witness it, there is nothing that makes me happier to see.

What are some of your pet peeves?

Maria: Lately, I see a lack of effort when it comes to witnessing people taking pride in their work. It is a privilege for us to work in our industry. We should never take anything for granted!

During the level up within your career what things did you have to begin doing differently? What would you say has remained the same?

Maria: Oftentimes I would find myself trusting the people I align myself with to push my career forward. Once I learned that I can also take my career into my own hands, things changed for me and I saw opportunities come to me in ways that I would not have imagined.

For me, nothing ever stays the same. I am always adapting.

Any news hints that you can share now or we can stay tuned for?

Maria: Other than working with Robert Clivillés and Neal Salvin, I may be attending the Venice International Film Festival this August, and am looking to learn some photography processes with The Penumbra Foundation.
