Elizabeth Sutton is one of the hottest artists on the market today, and she comes at you with a great attitude, which is why we think you need to know about her. Elizabeth Sutton’s story is a particularly interesting one, and as with many artist biographies, it stems from loss, to pave the road to lasting, gorgeous art. After getting married young and going through a painful divorce that almost caused her to lose everything, Sutton came to art completely by chance.

Lacking the finances to decorate her home with the art she dreamed of, she set about making her own paintings. Happy with the result, she uploaded a pic of her art to Instagram, which prompted her first order, and from there on, a highly determined climb up the artistic ladder.

As a self-taught artist, Elizabeth Sutton is one of those people you just want to be around, because you know they have so much to teach you. Luckily, we got to ask her a few questions, and hopefully glean some knowledge.

Work ethic as the key to success

“I work 18-20 hours a day for the past five and a half years, I attribute that motivation to a desire to have freedom as well as provide my two children with a beautiful life,” Sutton says, and we have to say, she immediately strikes you as a highly determined woman.

And it goes to show that this hustling lifestyle really pays off, because, in just a handful of years, Sutton has managed to climb to the top and set up her very own brand “Elizabeth Sutton Collection”. The Collection mainly deals in fine art, limited prints, as well as commercial design, and girls’ fashion accessories. Sutton’s also recently ventured into the world of rug manufacturing, also creating additional household objects, such as disposable placemats. She also heads a lifestyle and business blog, entitled Success by Design.

Really, when you look at all Elizabeth Sutton manages to do in a given day, it is incredible to think that even 20 hours is enough!

Self-expression and self-drive in the art world

It is no secret that one of the biggest challenges of the artist’s life is keeping your unique style of expression once you pass a certain level of success, but Elizabeth Sutton somehow seems to have managed that. When asked what the biggest misconceptions about her industry are, she casually replies “I don’t really know, because I create my own path. So, I try not to focus on what “the Industry” does.”.

It is clear to see from each and every piece on Elizabeth Sutton’s website, particularly her trademark butterfly pieces, that she’s managed to “make it” in this world, without giving up on her own personal view.

Looking to the future and words of advice

Today, at the dawn of 2021, Sutton has an optimistic view of the world and the future of her company – to make the Elizabeth Sutton Collection an international household name, but also to launch a nonprofit organization, in order to give back to the community.

When asked about what she would say to young people looking to “make it” in the art world, she says:

“Work harder than everybody else. You can have absolutely no talent but if you have all the hustle in the world you will get far. Have a thick skin because many doors closing means it leaves open opportunities for the right ones to open.”
