With the Click of a Button: Talking Marketing with Entrepreneur Bran Black

Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of sitting down with one of the most exciting entrepreneurs and marketers on the scene today, Detroit’s own Bran Black He is the founder of branNEWmedia, an innovative marketing platform with a view to promoting young talent and helping artists reach a wider and more diverse audience.

Although in recent years, Black has relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, it seems the true spirit of Detroit has not once left his heart, and true to his hometown, he’s bent on helping marketing “rise from its ashes”, thus ushering in a new age of promotion.

While some tend to see today’s advancements in technology as a drawback, making it that much harder to make yourself heard, Black only sees it as a new challenge and an immense realm of opportunity.

Social media is somewhat imperative to building my brand in today’s world. With it being so effortless to put out promo, announcements, etc., I’m able to reach a large amount of eyes with the click of a button.”

Interestingly enough, Black was not always drawn to the more technical and business side of the music industry. He confided in us that he used to dream of making it big as a musician in his own right, but swiftly realized that it was not for him. Instead, his time dabbling with music allowed him to discover his true passion, which is handling the business part of it and helping artists find their crowd.

With that in mind, we felt compelled to ask him about some of the biggest misconceptions in the music industry today, as he sees it.

“One of the biggest misconceptions of the music/media industry is that opportunities come to you. They don’t. They only come to you when you put yourself in the position to be granted them. You have to work for everything. And that’s in most powerhouse industries.”

But of course, it is not easy to stay motivated all the time, especially in such a grueling business field. Now more than ever, marketing is a tricky world, but Black seems to have great hopes for the future. He is confident that within the next couple of years, both his company and the artists he is currently representing, among which young up-and-coming rap artist Killchris, will rise to the top. A man of great confidence, Black practically exudes, coupled with just the right amount of determination to actually pursue his goals and find logical and practical ways to find success, which to him, is one of the main tricks you need, in order to make it in the marketing world.

“I get messages on the regular basis regarding me not giving up on what I’m doing and to stay humble, etc. That plays a huge part in pushing me to keep growing in my profession. So, salute to everyone who genuinely shows me and my movement love and support.”

BranNEWMedia is a tremendously exciting movement that really brings a spike of fresh blood into the music industry, and we are excited to see how it develops.
