Chicago artist Speedyville Nardy is passionate about a lot of things, but that’s only a reflection of his life’s philosophies and values. Life’s short! We all gone die!” he says about his key beliefs: to appreciate everything in front of him, and to make the most out of what’s at his disposal. Now an artist boasting collaborations with his cousin Petey Blanko, Atlanta’s 24LeftEye, Oakland legend Too $hort, and producer Hollorunitback (“The best producer coming out of Houston right now!” he says) as well as a budding entrepreneur with a clothing line and major real estate purchases on the way, Speedyville Nardy has his hands in a lot of different pots. He is even looking to acquire Speedyville, the housing project he grew up in and from which he derives his name. For Speedyville Nardy, doing whatever his soul, body, heart, and mind choose is a necessity.
Digital Buzz Now had the chance to speak with the artist about his work, values, involvement in the community, and goals. Read our conversation below!
Describe your style of music.
BraveHeart Music!
How long have you been in the industry?
[I’m] just starting out, to be honest. I never gave it a genuine shot until now!
Who have you worked with & who would you like to work with next?
I’ve worked with just the gang, really— my cousin Petey Blanko, 24Lefteye From Atlanta. The only producer I really worked with is Hollorunitback. He’s going to be the next Zaytoven from Atlanta, honestly! Remember I said it. I did a hook for Too Short as well— from Oakland. He’s a real legend! [And] I really don’t care much for working with others. People don’t be the thurl! They be therms! I’m working with whoever’s thurl and wants to work with me.
What community events have you contributed to?
I help the homeless daily. Just meeting them is a precious moment! I don’t do things and broadcast it to the masses for credibility or acknowledgement. I do when needs to be done. Not everyone will notice, but they always notice your being when you die, like the late and great DMX, the prolific Nipsey Hussle, etc.
Why is giving back to the community important when you have reached a point in your career where you are able to give back?
I really can’t speak for others, but I’ve been providing and assisting many without that. Helping, being an inspiration, leading by example, good character, determination, self-preservation, being supportive… things of this nature, I manifest daily, money or no money! Giving back is not anything to glorify or do because of some financial gains or Noble Peace Prize— just for honoring [someone] being a genuine individual. There’s no trophy for being genuine or helping another, unfortunately!
What are your goals for the rest of 2021 and next year?
To start my clothing line for Pack Money, and to buy or acquire my housing project Speedyville, which is where I’m from!
When you are not in the studio and/or working, what are some things that you enjoy doing? What are your hobbies?
I like enjoying the real world. I’m not a social media, television, technology-based type of individual. I’m really in the world everyday— outside!
What advice do you have to youth who want to pursue a career in music?
Be you! Never stop! You gone die soon, real soon, so go kuku! Don’t worry or stress about anything. Experience it all! Risk, sacrifice, and failure mean you’re growing and learning, so do a lot of it. And cherish the people in your life. It’s going to be a day you’re not going to see them or be able to call them ever again.
