After the success of “Heaven,” rising star Sasha Atlas comes back down to earth and hits the beach in the intriguing new single “If I Drown.” Considered a love letter, the upbeat pop song dives deep into high-watered territory and flirts with the idea that when true love holds you down you’re supposed to drown. Connecting soothing melodies, metaphoric lyrics, with Konstantin Korsakov’s hypnotizing production to create her best work yet.
The song begins with Atlas singing, “That night when I got pulled to sea / Got swept away somewhere too deep / Was going down, I couldn’t breathe / I begged the waves to bring you to me / I looked in your eyes / It was like fighting the tide, fighting the sky / With just one look I knew my hands were tied / But you won’t let me go down.”
“When I lived and worked in New York, my life was so uptight and overwhelming,” said Atlas on the song’s origin. “I was underwater and I needed to get out. During the pandemic, I moved to Florida to try to slow down and breathe. That’s not what was in store for me though. Instead, I was met with a city, and with a person, that took my breath away. ‘If I Drown’ is a love letter to Miami and to the feeling of being so head over heels for someone that you worry you’ll lose yourself.”
“If I Drown” follows Atlas’s breakout EP, On Fire, which includes buzzing singles “Ember In The Dark,” “Walls,” and “The Flame.” Atlas’s latest single adds to the artist’s growing catalog that released it’s latest single, “Heaven,” in May on the artist’s own imprint. Both “Heaven” and “If I Drown” are the perfect origin point for newfound fans as the artist continues to rise up the mainstream landscape.
As “If I Drown” continues to grow, Atlas prepares to capitalize on her latest EP with an anticipated follow-up full-length album, currently untitled, coming soon. To stay updated on everything Sasha Atlas, feel free to follow her on social media.
