HRDRV (pronounced “hard drive”) is a record label that specializes in providing creative services to independent musicians, songwriters, and producers, including cover artwork, visualizers, mixing and mastering, and more. Mickey Shiloh, the creator of HRDRV, recently held a virtual writing camp called “Girl Talk,” in collaboration with the literary collective ILL, for women refining their skill in music. The event was held in commemoration of Women’s History Month, and guests were treated to a week of panel discussions, networking opportunities with songwriters and producers, as well as a free mix/master and the creation of a sound kit. Finally, as one of the camp’s tasks, the campers collaborated on a compilation project.
Shiloh’s Girl Talk event was a program for women conducted by women, designed to assist them with writing, networking, and learning from other important women in the music industry about how to navigate being a woman in the industry. Singer-songwriter Breana Marin, pop singer/songwriter Elley Duhé, and R&B singer India Shawn were among the weekend’s panelists.
Mickey Shiloh recruited the aid of the “ILL” team, which stands for Isadore Noir, ladidai, and Luna Byrd, the writing camp coordinators, to put on this event. As a consequence of a communication between ILL member Isadore and Mickey tagged “#girltalk,” ILL contacted Shiloh with the concept of the girl talk camp.
Isadore, an East Flatbush native and founding member of ILL, is recognized for her sticky melodies and R&B origins mixed with the spirit of classical music, gospel, and punk, resulting in a sound that spans genres and cultures. The letters “L” and “L” in ILL represent ladidai and Luna Byrd, two of the group’s original members. ladidai is a songwriter that specializes in current pop, R&B, and hip-hop songs. People connected with Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige, Drake, and Chance the Rapper, among others, have taken notice of ladidai’s unique aesthetic. Luna Byrd, the last but certainly not least “L,” defies R&B conventions by fusing “Dominican and Haitian sounds with soul-infused pop to create a style that spans genres and cultures.” Luna has also been featured in Elevator Magazine, She Buzzin Magazine, and Vibes Magazine, attracting radio stations from all around the world, including Tribe Urban Radio, Gfm Radio, and Worldwide FM. Byrd is a nominee for the ASCAP Foundation Harold Adamson Lyric Award in 2020. Girl Talk, nicknamed the “camp leaders” for their contributions to the camp’s composition, production, and community-building, is an award-winning supergroup.
Gingerr Rust, Maya Batra, Mona Soul, Shira Luce, and two producers Roman “Sith” Lane and Ge Oh joined together to create Girl Talk, a 10-track collaborative masterpiece.
