Hi Hitha! We’re such big fans of your music! Congratulations on your new single, “Neverland”! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your new single?
I wrote “Neverland” after realizing that I was afraid of turning 18, more specifically, of becoming an adult. This song is a reflection of everything I feared about growing up. I had always been eager to mature into an “independent adult.” I chased that “freedom” throughout my childhood and adolescence. When I was about to experience that freedom, I realized that it came with a lot of societal expectations and rules for which I was not prepared.
Can you walk us through your creative process for writing and recording “Neverland”?
The creative process behind “Neverland” was a very nostalgic one. I wanted to include everything I was feeling without diluting the message of the song, so I connected it to something we all grew up imagining –“Neverland”. The story of “Neverland” and its inhabitants always fascinated me as a child. However, I only started wishing for its existence as I was about to become an adult myself. When I started writing the lyrics, it all came to me very quickly as if the words needed to get out. The recording was very simple too. “Neverland” is one of my most personal songs, so it didn’t take too long before I was embracing every phrase.
How does “Neverland” differ from your previous work?
“Neverland” is very different from my previous works as it’s about one of my core fears, growing up. The lyrics came directly from the feeling in my heart and the thoughts in my head; all summed together to create a personal and deeply emotional song.
Can you talk about any challenges you faced while creating “Neverland”?
One of the biggest challenges with creating “Neverland” was choosing a route for the music. It had to be perfect! I envisioned the music to be very mystical and big and I wanted to make the listeners feel like they were surrounded by instruments. However, it is much easier said than done!
How do you hope your fans will respond to “Neverland”?
I want my fans to find happiness in “Neverland”. Whether it is to listen to the instruments or to absorb the lyrics, I want them to go through an experience and come out better on the other side. I hope they realize that through different points in our lives, we will be faced with distressing and seemingly unconquerable circumstances. But it is up to us to take it one step at a time and allow ourselves to grow.
