Racial equity therapy has emerged as a transformative tool in today’s world, providing individuals and communities with the necessary support to navigate complex issues surrounding race and identity. This form of therapy focuses on creating safe and supportive spaces where conversations about words and actions can take place, fostering understanding and empathy. By addressing the impact of words and actions on racial equity, these conversations play a crucial role in dismantling systemic racism and promoting social justice. Through intentional dialogue and compassionate listening, racial equity therapists guide individuals toward self-reflection and growth, encouraging them to challenge their own biases and become active allies in the fight against racism. These conversations are essential for personal and collective transformation, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable society. Today we would love to introduce you to a woman who is leading these conversations by the name of Domenique Harrison, MPH, LMFT, LPCC — also known as The Racial Equity Therapist. She is a race and relationships therapist, a founder, an equity strategist, and a DEIJ educator. For over 10 years, she has professionally and personally helped folks build awareness, become transformed through their racial histories and identity stories, know their body-mind connection, have healthy conversations, and own the impact of their words and actions rather than their intentions.
Domenique has nationally led, created, and facilitated large group training and small group/individual coaching sessions for thousands of people across industries and across professions on self-care, prejudice & racism in the workplace, trauma-sensitive communication, unconscious bias, social justice in schools, trauma and resilience-informed care, emotional intelligence, professional wellbeing, and more.
Before becoming a Los Angeles transplant in 2017, Domenique worked in community care & crisis management — leading educational events and planning responses to disaster emergencies. She has co-authored two emergency response plans for New York City and New Jersey, planned over 30 events in Med Tech and Healthcare Innovation, and wrote case studies for 6 UN member countries on their HIV/AIDS workplace programs.
Domenique is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) for the state of CA. She received her Master’s in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University, a Master’s in Public Health from New York University, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Haverford College.
