What was the inspiration behind your brand?

Grace: My daughter, Dawsyn was the inspiration behind Neema Dance Collective. The month after she was born, I knew that my time working in the corporate industry was coming to an end. My pay and position were cut just before I entered maternity leave and that gave me all the passion I needed to jump-start my business back in 2016. Neema means Grace in the Swahili language.

Do you believe in work-life balance? If so, how do you maintain it?

Grace: I absolutely believe in work-life balance. All work and no play is never fun. I work just as hard as I play. Spa dates, lots of alone time, family trips, girl trips etc. are planned in my calendar. There are days that I do not book anything. Friday and Sunday are strictly reserved for my hosting gigs which I love, church and Sunday dinner with my family, and Friday’s, I relax.

What’s your best piece of advice for aspiring and new entrepreneurs?

Grace: Be consistent.

Pace yourself. Success comes.

Put yourself on a schedule and stick to it.

Deliver on all of your promises.

Say what you mean, and mean what you say.

Stand firm on your beliefs.

Separate your emotions from business dealings.

Never involve your feelings in business transactions.

Grace: My success is the success of the students. Every time they make an audition or are awarded scholarships it speaks volumes to our program and the work we do here.

From our teachings, our students have successfully auditioned and been placed in some of the top dance programs in the US like Duke Ellington School for the Arts, Baltimore School for the Arts, Suitland High School Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, Dance Theater of Harlem summer intensive, The Alvin Ailey school summer intensive, Debbie Allen Dance Academy summer intensive, The Washington Ballet, and Maryland Youth Ballet just to name a few. Our students have been placed in movies like “The Christmas Lottery” on BET, Debbie Allen’s Chocolate Nutcracker on Netflix, and several entertainment ads.

What type of dance does your studio specialize in?

Grace: NDC is unique! We offer classical ballet and pointe training, hip-hop, Horton technique, jazz, tap, dance fitness, mommy and me dance class, father/daughter dance classes, aerobics, Zumba, tumbling, liturgical, musical theater, contemporary and acrobatics training.

What’s your favorite style of dance?

Grace: Ballet and Acrobatics.

How do you inspire and motivate your students?

Grace: I coach with a firm hand and a kind heart. I invest my time into their personal growth as artists and as a person. I use a lot of my experiences to help coach and guide them on the right path.

What are some benefits of dancing?

Grace: Stress relief and mental relief. Dance is therapy, artistic expression, art, and sport. Dancing is also an awesome physical activity for all ages.

I got to chat with some of the cast during The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon virtual press day ahead of the series premiere (Non SAG Actors):

Tammy: Hello, everyone. Congratulations and welcome to The Walking Dead Universe. I’ve seen all 6 episodes and you all gave amazing performances. What would you say was your character’s first reaction upon meeting Daryl Dixon?

Anne Charrier-(Genet): My character is really looking forward to meeting him and seeing him killed because she’s very upset with him.

Romain Levi (Codron): I’ll not exactly say why, but Dixon is definitely Codron’s enemy. It was fun and I was very impressed by Norman. He has been so kind to me. He was very gentle and was always asking me if my head was okay or if my neck was fine because he punched me a lot.

Louis Puech Scigliuzzi (Laurent): My character was really curious about Daryl. He could be a new father figure to him. Laurent hasn’t seen many men in his life, and Daryl is the second one he sees. It’s kind of a big reveal for Laurent about who is this man going to be for him.

In “A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child” Kelly Jo played the role of Yvonne Miller, a friend of Alice(Lisa Wilcox), who does not believe Alice’s story about Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) and thinks her paranoid behavior is the result of Dan’s death until she is attacked by Freddy and saved by Alice. Alice sends Yvonne to the now-abandoned Westin Hills Hospital to find Amanda Krueger’s remains and free her spirit, allowing her to fight her son Freddy. Yvonne reappears in Innovation Comics’ Nightmares on Elm Street as a police officer and repays her debt by saving Alice’s life when Devonne, a woman sent by Freddy, tries to kill Alice with a machine gun and Yvonne shoots her. Alice then invites Yvonne to join her and Jacob, leaving Springwood to deprive Freddy of the opportunity to murder her. “The People Under the Stairs” is a 1991 American horror comedy film written and directed by Wes Craven and starring Brandon Adams, Everett McGill, Wendy Robie, A. J. Langer, Ving Rhames, and Sean Whalen. The plot follows a young boy and two adult robbers who become trapped in a house belonging to a strange couple after breaking in to steal their collection of rare coins. Craven has stated that The People Under the Stairs was partially inspired by a news story from the late 1970s, in which two African-American burglars broke into a Los Angeles household, inadvertently causing the police to discover two children who had been locked away by their parents. The film was a surprise commercial success and has received generally mixed to positive reviews from critics and audiences, and has been analyzed for its satirical depiction of gentrification, class warfare, and capitalism.

Kelly Jo’s character, Ruby Williams has some of the most memorable lines in the film:

“My name is Ruby Williams and I represent the association of people who have been unjustly evicted, exploited and generally f***ed over. You and your brother are landlords of over 50 buildings in this city, ALL of which you’ve allowed to deteriorate into rat infested hellholes while you guys get rich charging ridiculous rents. THEN, you evict anyone the minute they can’t pay rent so you can tear down their homes and build some more office buildings, isn’t that about right?”
