Well, buckle up, boys and girls, because you sure haven’t heard a story like this one. Kalen Hawkins, known by his stage name, Lil Savvy, is a rap and hip-hop artist from Atlanta Georgia. At the tender age of 25, he is already a cancer survivor, a gifted musician, and a successful entrepreneur.
We had the pleasure of having Lil Savvy answer a few questions for us, which we are really grateful for. One thing we found deeply inspiring was how his passion for music came to be. Because let’s be honest, at 22, you’re likely not to have it all figured out and still be searching through life. But Lil Savvy’s search was made infinitely more complicated when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and had to spend a year in hospital. Now, thankfully, he beat the cancer, but while in hospital, he also discovered his love for music.
Now, 25 years old and cancer-free, he is making his way as an up-and-coming rapper, and as a business owner. His brand, Lil Savvy Entertainment, is aimed at young artists of all kinds, from musicians to models, as well as entrepreneurs who are just starting out and trying to make a name for themselves in the music industry.
As we all know, it’s a very difficult journey and most need all the help they can get, which is what makes Lil Savvy’s brand that much more important.
It’s truly rare to see someone with such a moving story, and also someone who’s so dedicated to helping others, as well as himself. At an age where so many are barely figuring their own way out in life, Lil Savvy has already been to the edge and back and is striving to help his fellow human beings.
“Something that I wish I could have done differently when I first started out was invest in myself. If people stopped being scared and started investing in themselves, they could be in a better place, long as it’s a good investment, ”Savvy says.
Aside from helping build up personal brands and offering more exposure to young artists, Lil Savvy is also making waves in his own right. With a 90k strong following on Instagram, this young artist is using his unique story to inspire and create excellent and innovative music. His latest track, “In the Mix”, is not your everyday rap track. Lil Savvy’s music is a breath of fresh air on an overly saturated music scene, and that’s truly inspiring to see.
However, it’s not all roses up to the top, Lil Savvy warns.
“I’d say the biggest misconception is thinking that everyone is rich and that this is an easy industry. Being an artist and businessman has taught me a lot about the industry that every artist is not living the life they might portray.”
With influences ranging from Drake to Da Baby to Chief Keef, this rap artist and business-owner seems to put one notion above all, and that is: you gotta invest in yourself before anything else.
“Do what you love to do, tomorrow is not promised. And invest in yourself before wasting money,” Lil Savvy councils. With this kind of attitude and considering his backstory, we’re sure that if he was able to beat cancer, Lil Savvy has what it takes to climb the ranks and reach the place he deserves, among the leading names in the music industry.
